My mace.
My mace...exposed!!
My sword. I didn't take the cover off because that thing is tough to get off and tougher to get on.

The tape is on my sword to keep the strings from flopping around everywhere. And I put tape on the ends of the strings to make it look nicer. (I hate frayed ends...)

make sure the cord between ball and mace is beyond secure, you dont wanna ever have to rip your weapon apart to fix something so simple. just do it right the first time.
id suggest running the cord all the way through the core(pending its hollow) and wrap it around the handle as the handle wrap. then attaching to ball to that end and then capping it etc, and making the mace part legal. would not take more than probably 25 minutes to make a complete flail w/o the cover.

and, use like a jump rope cord or a strong tether, just something that will last forever. dont use a strawberry twizzler or anything.
