Garb issues Empty Garb issues

Post  Zephyr Sun Jan 18, 2009 2:16 am

I currently have no decent looking garb. I have Nelon's old hand-me-down cloak that has appoxy stains that everyone assumes is cat piss, and the little T-shirt sashes that I use to cover the pockets on my jeans so that they're legal at events. While I appreciate having that opposed to nothing, I would enjoy having some nice looking garb with my realm's colors on it.

I'm assuming that I will be wearing the standard black hakama whenever I purchase them. Also, I'm sure that I will eventually have a cloak on the same level as Nelon's, Rath's, and Rayoe's, but that will take time for me to become a captain and also come up with the money for the lady to make it if we end up using her services again.

I would like to have a white sash to go around my waist with enough extra length to hang down to about knee length when tied. Some kind of chest garb would be nice, whatever that may be to fit with the whole Asian theme. Perhaps a white headband could be the finishing touch if necessary.

I intend to purchase some nice bracers and greaves for armor at some point, but I would like to have garb before I start overdoing things. Any help or suggestions are welcome.

EDIT: My avatar to the left is kinda similar to the look I want, just with different colors. I also have a shield design that I want put on my shield, but that's something that I will have to show my realm mates and discuss with them personally, although I imagine that Nokomis will be applying it to the shield itself. Lastly, sorry for the long post. I had lots to say.

Yeah, we could put the realm logo or something on the cloaks, but armbands work fine too. I won't wear headbands if you don't like it that much lol. I'll see what I can do about getting those hakama but I didn't see any tops on there really.

EDIT:Some rough measurements for me:
Height=69-71 inches
Waist to ankle=About 32 inches
Waist=About 33-35 inches

These are rough measurements but it gives ideas about the size of hakama I need to order. So, what size do you suggest, since I noticed that Leinad said his were a bit too long? A size 5 on the site's sizing chart seems like the best fit, but I want to make sure you agree before I order a size that's too big/small.

I miss read the sizing chart, so your best bet is going to be to go by it. Don't make the same silly mistake I did, size does not equal length.

Well, size 5 has the best measurements for my height, weight, and waist. I used the uniform sizing chart. Is that the correct one? I want to make sure that all of this stuff is correct before I order anything. If so, I'll place the order on Tuesday and I should have it before Saturday's practice.

Alright, I just ordered a pair of size 5 black hakama from them. UPS Ground says it should be here in 4 days, so I should have it in my possession before the next practice. If I have no issues and it fits correctly, you can count on me wearing it to practice.

Now to solve the problem of the rest of my garb...

I may just wear a plain black T-shirt/long sleeve as a top until I find something official.

I'm actually thinking of wearing the top piece of a kung fu gi as my chest garb. I'm gonna wait until I get my hakama from this guy until I order something else so that I know he's reliable. Here, take a look.
http://www.kungfu4less.com/masterlinekungfuuniform.html

Also, I'm thinking of having everyone in our house to wear identical sashes that will be made from this guy too. They're $10 each on his site and have a decent bit of customization. I think you'll especially like the option to have kanji symbols embroidered onto them. Here's the URL for that too.

See, that's the problem I have. Most sites only sell them in full suits and I only need a top piece. I don't want to pay for another pair of hakama when these things cost $60+ already. Speaking of those, I won't get them until Monday unfortunately, so no wearing hakama to practice for me this time...

I'm probably just gonna stop caring and go buy a plain black T-shirt or something. I'll already have a cloak, sash, and hakama, so I think I should be able to wing it on the last piece.

Alright, I got my hakama on Monday. I tried them on and they fit pretty good, although I may have to wear them a bit higher than normal to keep them from dragging on the ground too much. I'm pretty set on just wearing my current cloak and a black T-shirt until garb actually matters.
